FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS
-
How many sessions of Pico Laser do I need?
Depending on the patient’s condition and the type of pigmentation, the number of treatments can vary. A few factors influence the outcome of the treatment; nature of pigmentation, skin type, skin health, hormones, sun exposure, acne, etc. On average, about 4 – 6 treatments will be required for best results.
-
How painful is Pico Laser?
We help to minimise discomfort by using a specially compounded numbing cream and a face mask after. These help to ensure our patients remain comfortable. This is also based on the individual’s pain tolerance and location of the pigmented lesion. Most patients are able to tolerate the laser sessions without much discomfort. The laser feels like tiny warm pricks on the skin.
-
Are there any side effects?
Some patients may experience mild itchiness after the laser. This usually goes away within a few hours.
-
Is there any downtime?
There is little to no downtime and you can return to work or daily activities immediately after the laser. You should avoid prolonged / intentional sun exposure for a week post-laser to avoid hyperpigmentation.
-
Are results permanent?
Most pigmentation, like tattoos, will not return after removal. However, due to sun exposure, ageing and hormonal changes, new pigmentation can develop. You should apply sunscreen to prevent new pigmentation from forming. Regular maintenance treatments with the Pico Laser can also benefit some patients.
-
Will lasers thin out my skin?
A common misconception is that lasers reduce the skin’s thickness. The opposite is true. The Pico Laser encourages collagen growth and can help your skin to become thicker and healthier.
-
What can I do to speed up my recovery?
Avoiding the sun, using sunscreen and the use of gentle products after Pico Laser will help. Avoid rubbing or scratching your skin as your skin might be sensitive after Pico Laser. Keep your skin hydrated and avoid wearing any make-up. Drink plenty of water.
-
What should I avoid before Pico Laser?
Sun exposure and tanning will decrease the effectiveness of the laser treatment and increase the chance of post-treatment complications.
